8 String Guitar

The practice of music, like any practice, requires dedication. We expect instant gratification in our lives and struggle when we do not immediately experience the fruits of our labor. Our practice suffers as we are unable to accept this truth. We allow doubt and frustration to stand in the way of progress. Aimlessly wandering; wondering what could have been, had our musical journey not been cut short by lack of commitment and resolve.

As a music instructor, I have seen this story manifest all too often, watching as students lose faith and enthusiasm as their expectations become unrealized. For years, observing this cycle caused me great suffering. I felt powerless to share the joy and transformation that music has brought to my life and so many others. However, as music has many times before, it transformed my life once again. As this problem became increasingly clear to me, my commitment to practice changed. I am here to guide you on a journey to transform your practice.

Transform your life through the practice of music

I work with individuals who desire a change in their practice. Individuals who require guidance. Individuals who need to be pushed. Individuals who would otherwise succumb to boredom, frustration, and doubt. In addition to knowledge, I provide structure built around your current life. Together as a partnership, we work to establish a practice that will over time allow you to meet your goals whatever they may be. I am not a "music teacher". I am not a "guitar instructor". I am a guide to walk with you along a path that will transform your life through the practice of music.

How can I guarantee results?

  • I am not a performing musician augmenting income through lessons, my focus is entirely on your success

  • I maintain a small studio (<10 people at any given time)

  • Sessions consist of 90 minutes, wherein we discuss previous achievements and introduce new concepts to strengthen the practice

  • After a session concludes, material is sent to support the new concept introduced; this is where the real work begins

  • Individuals practice new concepts between session with regular check-ins to ensure the practice is maintained

  • I am available between sessions in various formats to hold individuals accountable for their progress

  • We work over a specified period of time that will allow for proper development of practice

  • I work with individuals who are able to match my dedication to their practice

  • We work as partners with the same goal, to transform your life through the practice of music

Do I teach one-off lessons?

No. My goal is to help individuals develop their practice, and this is not something that can be done in an hour (akin to a more traditional music lesson). What I do offer are free music consultations for folks who just need a bit of help finding the right direction. I leave my Friday schedule open for this volunteer service. If you are curious, book a session on my schedule page. These sessions are not designed to attract new students nor are they an opportunity for me to promote my work. I do this because it allows me to help as many folks as possible while still maintaining the standards I come to expect of the individuals I work with. It is an opportunity for us to share music and practice ideas, as well as to put together a loose practice regimen for you to try out based on where you are and where you want to be.

How long will we work together? How much does it cost?

This is 100% dependant on the individual. Most people start with a 6-month commitment given their current practice and goals. Because it would be irresponsible of me to assume the same practice plan works for everyone, it is impossible for me to set a flat rate. Instead, we spend time discussing goals, current practice, current knowledge, current availability, and schedule. Everyone is in a different place in their musical journey and so the process for developing the right plan takes careful consideration and correspondence from both parties. I have very high expectations of those I work with, and I anticipate they have high expectations for themselves as well as for me.
